THE BEST RESULT FOR A ROMANIAN ATHLETE IN KATA DISCIPLINE
Petru Comănescu, trained since he was 3 years old by Ovidiu Jelea, managed to win the first and until now the only gold medal for a Romanian athlete in Kata discipline into a WKF official karate tournament: Karate 1 Youth League Jesolo 2019.
This was a top level karate competition, which brought together 3180 athletes from 65 countries.
Petru competed in his category against 124 athletes from 24 countries.
Petru’s progression was:
2nd from his group in the 1st round
1st from his group in the 2nd round
1st from his group in the 3rd round
1st from his group in the 4th round
1st in the final
As stated on the official World Karate Federation website, Petru Comănescu produced one of the big upsets of the day.
Behind this outstanding result are more than 13 years of sacrifices, perseverance and hard work.
Petru is also the Romanian with the best results ever as a Cadet in WKF official tournaments, in Kata discipline.
Petru reached in 2020 the best places for a Romanian in the WKF Ranking, Kata discipline:
15th place in Junior Kata Male
75th place in Senior Kata Male
As a result he won the right to participate in the Olympic Qualification Tournament that will be held in Paris before the Olympic Games.
All started with a child and a coach who dare to dream high.
A TEAM BUILT TO EXCEL
Petru Comănescu is the most performant in WKF official tournaments, but is not the only great athlete trained by Ovidiu Jelea.
In the dojo are 5 black belts: Katinka Gyorfi, Alexandra Ioniță, Konrad Gyorfi, Petru Comănescu & Ovidiu Jelea.
Ovidiu Jelea was certified with 3 DAN Black Belt by the World & European Champion Luca Valdesi and his father & trainer Andrea Valdesi.
The best athletes in the team coached by Ovidiu Jelea were also certified with 1 DAN Black Belt by Andrea & Luca Valdesi.
It is a great satisfaction for a instructor to lead a karateka from his first day in the dojo until he graduates to black belt.
When the examination is held by some of the greatest technicians in the world, the satisfaction is even higher.
This is the essence of Ovidiu Jelea’s coaching philosophy: NO COMPROMISES!
The athletes coached by Ovidiu Jelea won over time more than 700 medals in different karate competitions and more than 70 National Champion titles in both karate disciplines: Kata & Kumite. The movie below presents the 2020 rules for Kata & Kumite.
