HIS TRAINER . ABOUT KATINKA

Fluffy kittens with bows printed pink shirts. Hippie-style tight braids. Tufted little caps with shiny sequins. Sequins and rhinestones blouses. Sequins, rhinestones and heart printed pants. Glitter sequin sneakers. When you see Katinka in the classic Karate kimono, you almost bet that she has somewhere, inside, a drawn pink kitten surrounded by hearts.

This is how Katinka came to Karate, bright and cheerful. Younger than her team colleagues, Andreea and Alexandra, much less experienced, her entry into the team was into tears. Her colleagues quickly showed her that not everyone could be part of their team and they showed it by the tough way. Sometimes they complained of her being trifling. For me it was funny to listen to a child telling me about another one that she was too childish to team up with him. In a way, they were right, the attitude of Katinka expressed anything but seriousness.

However, among all the approaches that I noticed over time on children, this seemed to me the most natural. Where for others it’s about a race, for Katinka it is a game, when others shudder, she has fun, while others plan, she enjoys the moment.

“Anything can be achieved if it is not taken too seriously” seems to be her attitude and it is an attitude that brings her success. Somehow, Katinka succeeds in getting what she wants in a way which you would be tempted to call “easier than others” or “the easiest way” but it’s just a superficial impression, things are as difficult for her as for the others, but she does not stress needlessly. For example, when Katinka came to the gym, Alexandra, her colleague, was the master in terms of the splits and generally kicking techniques. Somehow, without anyone noticing, Katinka exceeded all colleges and is now in direct competition with Alexandra. And it is not the only example. Katinka likes to stand out and knows very well that she can do it only by being very good.

There were also many difficult moments, many defeats, there are also for her obstacles, even I was one of those who raised intentionally walls in front to test her, to see what could break her and how she recovers. And every time Katinka overcame them with the same relaxation, giving me the impression that, in situations where almost go home and hide under the covers care-laden, she listens to music and dances, thinking how she will go over obstacles. I tested also what happens if I help her to obtain easily certain rewards than others, and the fact that it motivated her rather than making her less interested, confirmed to me what I thought about her attitude.

“Life as a huge playground”, this is how things are visible through the eyes of Katinka. Certainly, some agree and others don’t. Personally I am convinced that this blonde little girl has the ingredients of the right attitude. I always wondered if performance sport, with its challenges and responsibilities, does not steal from the childhood naturalness and I’m glad that the team has alongside her, because it’s hard to find someone more relaxed and natural as she is.

KATINKA . ABOUT HER DREAM

For me  Project 2019 means a chance to participate at WKF European and World Championships together with my team being coached by our Sensei who is a good manager.

We should take seriously this project as it may bring us the golden medal in the  Girls Team and Boys Team competitions. Our girl team is very strong because we trust each other and therefore we are united. The boy team is very good at synchronized kata and bunkai.

Also, this project that is aiming at the first European title in the only Olympic Karate can bring us sponsors, but as our coach says, it is not enough to be “little materialists”, we also have to take the training really seriously. As my mom said, if we get golden medals at the European or World Championships in an Olympic sport, we shall receive annuities and we will have the opportunity to travel a lot in foreign countries.

This project is really important for me. I’m healthy through sport and it helps me a lot in life. When I am on podium, I will feel great and I think I will cry for joy. Project 2019 will help us become European and World champions in an Olympic sport.

“But, as our coach says, it is not enough to be “materialistic dwarfs”, we also have to take the training really seriously.”
